Summer 2024 Deck
We all need to care for our skin, hair, nails, and teeth—self-care is universal. But for people of color, we often face greater challenges in doing so.
Many of us are familiar with the comedic portrayals of Black girls and their “nappy hair” or Dave Chappelle’s skits on ashy skin. While funny, these moments highlight real pain points. Despite making up only 14.5% of the population, Black people account for 2.5% of all beauty product spending, contributing $9.5 billion annually. Why? Because we need products that work for our specific needs, but we usually have to relegate turn to options filled with toxic chemicals.
